Baby Vance is Here!

So my best friend Kathryn had a beautiful baby boy last week. He's so darn cute! Of course I took the opportunity to practice some stuff with newborns I've been wanted to try for some time. That's what best friends are for, right? I've been admiring the work of a photographer named Kelley Ryden for quite some time now and decided I wanted to try her posing techniques.

After about an hour of getting Vance relaxed we started in with our experiment. Here's what we decided about these posing techniques: not humanly possible! How does she do it?! We do not understand. The closest we got was the second image you see in this post- and I got this only after removing Kathryn's hand from the image. For an image more representative of our session please see the last one in this post (I'll wait until you look at it)......... That one in particular makes me laugh every time! The experiment was by no means a complete failure- we did get some darn cute images. But the mystery of Ms. Ryden's posing techniques still alludes me. I vow to one day figure it out!

Oh, and thank you Vance for being such a good sport. I'm sure it can't be fun to be bent in half molded into unnatural poses only to flop down on a bean bag.

Look at This Baby!

Seriously, I can't get enough of baby Emily. My friends Cynthia and Mike were in town for the holiday weekend and I had to get my hands on their sweet (and VERY happy) baby!

A Girl and Her Bassoon

I get to meet the coolest people doing this job! Kaitlyn is graduating from ASU this spring with her degree in music (but I bet you could have guessed that). She wanted some pictures with her bassoon, so we headed out to Desert Botanical Gardens. This fall she'll be headed to Germany to begin her graduate studies and hopes to stay in Europe to pursue a career with a symphony. She is the sweetest girl and has a such a bright future ahead! Thanks Kaitlyn for a really fun afternoon.

Evelyn

What a fun session! We had some major wind to contend with, but I'm kind of loving what the wind did for us.

Ben

Ben is 8 months old and just look at that face! It's really hard not to just squeeze the little guy- but I restrained for the most part. It was another great session with Ben and his parents- here's a little sampling.

Carina and Scott

I had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Carina and Scott last Saturday at the Raven at Verrado. All of the beautiful details were pulled together seamlessly by Sandy Walker of In Awe Weddings and Events. Carina and Scott are truly a special couple and I feel honored to have been a part of their day.
